A fusion gene is a hybrid gene formed from two previously separate genes occuring as a result of translocation, interstitial deletion or chromosomal inversion. In the pathogenesis of TRK fusion cancer, the NTRK gene fuses with an unrelated gene, causing overexpression of the TRK protein.
